“Let’s just point our toes, twirl around, and have a good time!”
Has it been years since you’ve danced? Have you always wanted to take ballet classes and just never made it happen? Here’s your chance to bring the simple joy of dance into your life. We will build the foundation of a solid technique, learn to use the body to create beautiful shapes, groove to some great tunes, and have a great time doing it. Ballet shoes are optional (bare feet or socks work great) and while leotards are fun, you can wear whatever you feel comfortable moving in. This class is a positive environment where you will be encouraged, challenged, and celebrated!
Hey, yo! I’m April, and I love to MOVE. I fell in love with dance at age 3 at my cousin’s recital and insisted repeatedly to my mom that I needed to get “up there” and “do that”. I love performing (which I get to do with PDX Dance Collective) but what I love even more is getting into the studio and dancing for the pure joy it brings me. Working the body brings a smile to my face every time, and I love bringing that smile to others. I have over 20 years of studio training between Detroit, Portland, and Melbourne (Australia), a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Dance Performance from Marygrove College (Detroit), and I train regularly at BodyVox, Vega Dance+Lab, and NW Dance Project.  My teaching style focuses on developing whole-body connection, functional strength, cool/weird applications of science and physics, and lots of bad jokes.
